Kid in Surgery

Posted 01-08-2014 at 08:08 AM by OANST
Stephanie's two year old, Zac, is having surgery this morning to remove a cyst growing under his chin. Apparently, the cyst isn't the kind that the doctor thought it was, and they are going to take him to the hospital, and keep him over night. I've been in his life for a little over a year now, and it's really hard for me to stay away right now, but I have to. His dad's there with him, and it isn't my place to go there, and make his dad feel more uncomfortable than I'm sure he already does, having his kid living with another man.

But still, it's kind of hard. For about eight months, the kid called me daddy, and I don't treat him any different than I would my own kid. Now, I never encouraged him calling me that. Every time he said it, I corrected him, until finally he does call me Mat now. He has a dad, and I know how upset I would be if Abbey were to start calling some other guy 'dad'. But I'm the guy who plays with him, and changes his diapers, and sits with him in my lap while we watch cartoons, and makes him food, and pushes him around on his little wheelie things, and well, you get the picture. Just kind of stressing out, hoping he's okay, and wishing I could be there for him, and for her today.

Man, that's pretty shitty, keep us posted with how it gets on? I would have thought cyst removal would be a pretty routine procedure so I'd have thought it'll be all right. Fingers crossed for you and the little man.

Everything turned out pretty well. The cyst was nothing too serious, and they just wanted to keep him to make sure nothing obstructed the airways. They'll be on their way home in a few minutes.

that's absolutely brilliant how the hospital was so concerned about, and not to make light of the situation, what would be a routine procedure/operation for them. that probably sounds stupid because it's a hospital durr hurr that's what they do but over here it's another story. there's a hospital around my area called The Good Hope, but it's terrible reputation has made people nick-name it inventive shit like The Bad Hope. or The Rotten Hope. or No Hope.

you get the picture.

The NHS isn't always bad though. I had to phone an ambulance for my Mum two or three months ago, they put us on a fast-track in A&E and then swiftly moved her into an emergency ward. Couldn't have been happier with how they sorted that out and how swiftly they acted. Hell I even got a free cup of tea.

Also I'm super glad everything is all right with you and yours, OANST. How's the little chap feeling?

Herts, and I think a few London hospitals were some of the ones that started this whole review thing that's happening over here?

He's doing great for having an insanely long incision under his chin. He was bouncing around like a crazy person, chasing me around the house when I got home last night. Probably a little hyper from being constrained for about a day and a half.

The surgery was actually done at a place that specializes in these types of things for kids, and it was supposed to be an in and out situation, which is why it was kind of scary when Steph told me that the doctor had just come out, while the surgery was still going on, to tell her that it wasn't what they thought it was going to be, and he was going to be going to the hospital, and staying there over night. But everything turned out well.
