~:Rules about ::CREATING:: RPGs. READ THIS BEFORE STARTING YOUR OWN RPG!!!:~

(Note: These rules apply to people wanting to begin their own RPG. You do not need a licence to take part in one of the currently existing RPGs.)

These rules are for people wishing to create their own RPG in Oddworld Forums.

What do I have to do before I can make an RPG?
You have to have some RPG experience. It doesn't necessarily have to be here, but you must understand the OWF RPGing rules. If it is here, then you're chances are better. Some sites RPG differently, so it's good to know you understand how we work.
You must have some decent grasp of the English language, including the use of paragraphing and punctuation. I'm sorry about this one, but any RPG that's hard to read is likely to fail very quickly. You don't have to perfect, but as long as we can understand your posts without much struggle, things should be ok.
You must apply for, and recieve, an RPG licence. This is the all important one. See below for information on getting a licence. Even good RPG's might get deleted if you don't apply for a licence first.

How do I get an RPG licence?
By applying! Below is the new application process that you'll have to follow before posting your RPG.
First, you must PM me to ask to apply. I'll almost certainly accept, unless you have no RPG experience that i know of, or your grammar is particularly bad. If you are accepted, I'll send you a PM and put you on the waiting list in this thread.
Second, you must PM me the first post of your intended RPG as you plan to put it in the RPG itself (see below for advice). There are more detailed instructions for this below.
Next, I'll do one of three things. I'll either accept your RPG, give you a licence and let you start your RPG, or I'll reject your RPG and licence and ask you to get some more experience before applying again, or I'll suggest some changes you should make to your intended RPG and leave you to resubmit it when you're done.

Who has an RPG Licence?
First, here's the list of people who already have a licence (If you're an old member of OWF and you have RPGed in the distant past, PM me and I'll probably accept you straight away).

Albino-Slig
AlexFili
Bullet Magnet
Chronicler
Cyber-slig
Dripik
Gretin
Havoc
Jarnww
Marvak
Metroixer
Munch's Master
Oddish
Oddveteran93
Patrick Vykkers
Scarbmania
Seikyo Jack
Slaveless
slig# 5719
Sliguy101
Splat
Statikk HDM
Stonetooth
T-nex
The Brew Master
TomFrogman
Warlord Arskittar
Zozo the Zrilufet

Now here's the waiting list for people who have applied and are waiting to get their licence.

The Dark Mudokon
Laser
OddjobAbe
Scrabtrapman

After I have a licence, can I post a new RPG at any time?
If you want to create a second RPG, please PM me first, asking permission. I'll either ask you to show me your plan for the RPG you want to make, give you permission to make it, or tell you not to. The last will probably only be used if there have been other RPGs made recently and I'm worried about them competing to much for the members.

Can i loose my RPG licence if I have it?
Yes! If you start posting a lot of RPGs, you might have your name removed from this list, but only if you give me a really good reason to do so. Mainly this will only happen if you start making lots of bad RPGs without permission, or if you start breaking a lot of the RPG rules.

What goes in the first post?
If you want some ideas you can check out the opening posts for some existing RPGs.
First thing to go in should be the story of the RPG, however simple or complex it may be.
Then you should put in a rules section with links to the RPG rules thread information and advice for RPG newbies and any additional rules you might want to include, such as number of characters each player is allowed and rules about non-player characters (random characters). Then put in an example character profile (leave it blank, except for any notes you want to put in).
Third section is any other information such as a map. You don't have to have this.
Lastly you can choose to put in the profiles of your own characters. Try and make them good, cus other people might want to look at them for reference when making their own characters.
Don't post 'in character' in the first post; it's best to wait until a number of other people have joined before starting.

ok heres my map for my rpg

Splat 01-06-2007 12:18 PM

For some reason it's not appearing well, it's small and it's imossible to read the text. Can you try resizing it?
What i can see looks good.

sligco 01-06-2007 04:55 PM

Thats as big as it will get ,but I can just make the legend seperate,

Splat 01-07-2007 05:37 AM

Well it's impossible to read it like that. If you save it as a .png file it should lower the file size without affecting the quality. if you need to make it an attachment.

12345abe 03-12-2007 02:37 AM

YO!

Yo I need a license splat please!

Splat 03-12-2007 09:16 AM

Did you read any of the instructions above?

12345abe 03-14-2007 01:34 AM

of course

of course i did, otherwise i'd be making another rpg, cause you deleted the last 1.

moxco 03-18-2007 11:41 AM

Obviously not.

the first map for the RP, thought I'd let you look over it.

Ground floor of the central tower, still a work in progress and I've got the scale quite wrong... it's meant to be larger than this but it will do.

Zozo the Zrilufet 07-07-2007 09:38 AM

That's an awesome map, Albino-Slig.

Albino-Slig 07-07-2007 11:23 AM

Thank you Zozo the Zrilufet :) It's got a basement and four higher elvels to do yet for that section then I need to do its three transepts and the exterior O_O I'm working on the frst post right now so probly wont be long till its up.

Patrick Vykkers 07-07-2007 11:05 PM

Here is the map for my planned rpg about a meep farm.

stonetooth 12-09-2008 06:03 PM

For the postcount of 20, does it have to be just in the RPG section or overall?

Splat 12-10-2008 11:31 AM

Overall.

SlagoTheSlig 01-22-2009 03:54 PM

I have a question: Do we have to send you a map of the rpg?

Splat 01-22-2009 03:58 PM

If you were going to make an RPG that would include a map, then you would have to show me it beforehand. However, you can make an RPG without a map.

Seikyo Jack 10-26-2009 11:54 AM

I had a few questions regarding this.

For RP experience, do I have to send character backgrounds from previous forum RPGs?
I think I do have the necessary experience for RP and that I understand the rules enough but I doubt just saying I've been role-playing for 5 years is enough to be convincing so I'm assuming I should PM backgrounds and texts. And I am not interested in joining W@RF since there's so many pages to read and I don't even know the posting ordre (and I also would prefer RP-ing in a clean thread that doesn't have too much OOC posts).

Thank you for your answer and have a nice day. :)

Splat 10-26-2009 12:14 PM

If you want to join W@RF, you only have to read the three or five most recent posts. But yeah, it is pretty messy in there at the moment (sorry - OWF's RPGing hasn't been what is was lately).

I trust you've RPGed before, though if you are able to PM me a link to a forum where you've PMed previously, that would help. ;) Just make sure you've checked our RPG rules to make sure we do things the same way here.

But as I say, I'll take your word for it, and you can PM me your idea. The proof of the pudding is in the tasting, as they say :pipe: (All these years wanting an excuse to use that oddicon, and now I find two in one evening :D) I'll make judgement on your ability based on your first post.

Seikyo Jack 10-26-2009 12:34 PM

Actually most of the forums I RP'ed on are either dead or French (I mostly RP in French forums :P), although I kept my character backgrounds.

i read the rules, they're about the same rules as in most forums, so I should have no problem here. I have an idea for an RPG, although I'll have to work on it a little (and I would also have to get the 20 post counts before submitting the idea).

Thanks for your answer, Splat. :)

AlexFili 10-26-2009 12:36 PM

That shouldn't be too hard. Just make sure you don't double or triple-post. That's a big no-no here. Welcome to the forums :). 5 years experience should be plenty.

Thank you very much for the RPG License Splat. I won't let you down!

Don't worry, I never do that. I use the edit button.
And thanks for the welcome. ^^

You are our new best friend. I can see you're no stranger to the forum experience. Try the Welcomes and Birthdays forum if you want to make yourself known, I'm sure everybody would love to see you. Beware, it won't stay on-topic for long though.

Haha, I don't doubt it, I saw the shark teeth necklace thread. :P

Splat 10-26-2009 01:36 PM

Sorry to break this up, but this really isn't the thread for social conversations. I ask you to continue this discussion in Welcomes and Birthdays or some-such place. I hope you get on well, Seikyo.

Already posted a thread in the welcomes section. And thank you, Splat. ^^
