Problems With Steef!?

I really hope this doesn't cause mass hysteria.PLEASE READ EVERYTHING I WROTE BEFORE YOU GO NUTS! When reading a recent issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly I came across something that said Steef has been cancelled. The article was an interview with Ed Fries, the head of Microsoft Game Studios. EGM asked him if this rumor was true and he quickly denied it. I don't know about you but I had never even heard this rumor. Shame on EGM. Shameshameshame!

Im pretty sure that OWI would tell us if and why the game had been cancelled. After all they already have gotten us all hyped up about it and they don't seem to be stopping; so bet's on the game is still underway.

never heard about any cancelling, anyway Alf would have the decence to told us, so that we don't expect anything

I sincerely doubt Oddworld 4 has been cancelled. OWI would most definitely have told us, and what's more it just doesn't make any sense - at this time I expect a majority of the FMV will be completed, so unless the Inhabitants want to make a complete waste of the last two years, they'll continue to finish the game.

Time will tell. I mean seriously, it's just 60 hours until Oddworld.com is due to be updated with hints about the upcoming game. If anyone runs into Alf in OddChat, be sure to question him about this rumour.

And don't be so quick to blame EGM, they probably didn't start the rumour. I searched Google, but the only reference to cancellation regarding Oddworld was with MO on the PS2. I'd search Penny Arcade!, a remarkable authority on rumours, but my computer right now is about as reliable as a Slig plumber.

I doubt this rumour is true, as Alf would surely have said something. Max, Penny Arcade haven't got anything about Oddworld in their latest slides.

EGM like to print rumors apparently. They said that FFVII:Advent Children was going to come with a remake on the Sony PSP handheld. Square-Enix never officially said this. Then again, they never denied it either.

(eggh... god no, it better be a rumor, FFVII deserves more than a handheld!!! *end rant*)

So it's probably the same with Steef/Oddworld 4. Curses to those magazines.

Then again it was EGM who also published in January about the half-monkey, half-horse, half-man main character who has a phychic relationship with his boat. *shrug*

i dont think the games been cancelled as why would they send the christmas card with all the characters on it. Besides Alf was here a while ago i think and he would have told us.

Apparently people read the article wrong. I have a link to this particular article I found sometime ago when I was searching a halo site, but kept forgetting to post it. EGM is a good magazine, and they have been quite reliable on the the rest of the entire magazine, besides rumors people may take serious. I mean look they were the ones who reported that the next OW game wouldnt feature Abe, etc.

Ed Fries never specifically says the game got cancelled, he says something like I'm not allowed to talk about that game. Probably Oddworld Inhabitants still wants it kept under wraps for now.

Excerpt:

EGM: How about the follow-up to Munch's Oddysee, the next Oddworld game…what can you tell us about that? We've only seen it in a show that ran on the Discovery Channel.

EF: [Smiles] What can I tell you about that? It's not really a game we're talking about a lot right now....

EGM: We heard a rumor that it had gotten the ax?

EF: No, we're continuing to work with those guys. I'm not sure there's much I can say about it right now...I don't know...we kind of get in trouble if we talk about stuff before we're ready...I'd rather wait until we're confident when it's gonna be out and what it's gonna be…and then we can talk about it.

Exactly perfect OWI doesn't want anybody to know and when I say anybody its everybody even the media. So in short Steef will come out its not canceled and we can relax.

If you'd all have read soulstorm49's original post, you'd see he said clearly enough that Ed Fries denied the rumour, so there was never any need to fret. Thanks for the interview excerpt, Al.

Thanks Max. I think when a game takes a while to give information a rumor is bound to be started. I just thought it was funny how the first time I heard the rumor was as it was being disproved.

Maybe they made the rumour solely because they werent getting their desired amount of information, or simply to ask the question - not because its a rumour, but because they are curious to whether it is still happening...
