Sligster, you never answered my question.

As for fishing, I think there's less attention on it because that's the only way to get seafood. As far as I know, there's no fish farms. Therefore, going out and catching your own fish is no worse than the mass fishing done by fishing companies and whatnot. Both come from the wild. If anything, the fishing companies are worse because of their tendencies to overfish sometimes.

I can understand hunting for food, but for FUN?!? Barbaric. I find it sickening that some consider destroying an innocent life as "sport" or "leisure".

...of course, most things about human kind sicken me....

You could say it's the "Thrill of the Hunt" factor, I suppose. I never said I did it just for fun. I do it mostly for food (cause, as much as I'd like to be true, you can't survive on Twinkies), but the time I don't do it for food, is sort of an extermination job.

Me and my grandfather go camping every year, and the land around camp spot is owned by one of my grandfather's friends. He has a large ranch, with fields and ponds and such. However, there are so many squirrels, they have become pests. So we kill some squirrels to help out a friend.

However there are vegetarians who refuse dairy products on the basis that it's an animal product and is therefore bad. But yes, dairy products would solve the bone problems, at least to a certain extent.

The fact of the matter is, one way or another, we need to eat meat. It contains things that you have to eat and otherwise must be supplimented, and those suppliments are made from animals anyway. If you leave them out completely, you'll find yourself with some serious health problems later on in life.

Actually, soya and seitan are some of the best sources of high quality protein available. Tofu and Quorn contain mycoprotein which is purely a plant-based protein that promotes cell renewal and growth and gives 12 units of the 50 RDA. Wheat is one of the best sources of glutenated protein, giving 16 units of the recommended 50 units. Scientific research has actually found that people can reach their full growth potential on a vegetarian diet. Also, vegetarians have a 23% less chance of contracting heart disease, 36-50% less chance of contracting cancers, 37% less chance of clogged arteries and almost always have a much lower cholesterol number than meat eaters. Actually, in the 1996 American Medical Journal, 90-97% of heart disease and colon cancer could've been prevented by a vegetarian diet.

All in all, a vegetarian diet is healthier and a lot less fatty than a meat-eating diet. Overall, vegetarians have a higher life expectancy than meat-eaters and encounter many less health problems than their meat-eating counterparts.

Basically if you're vegetarian, you can expect to live longer, encounter less illness and have a low cholesterol.

Bleah! I hate tophu. I don't necessarily eat just meat, but I like being an omnivore. There's nothing better than a bacon wrap with lettuce & onions (gives you terrible breath though)! Great, first day of Band Camp and I'm already hungry !

Default Howdy!

Howdy folks!

Don't agree with hunting for sport. I mean how can you blast a critter that's so damn cute? Hunting for food and say if a farmer is protecting his livestock (if done humanly) is okay.

Hunting trophies I reckon depends, I mean if you bag a REALLY ENORMOUS critter (deer or something) I suppose...although I don't hunt so I can't really comment. But I have mates in the US that hunt deer and then store it incase of bad weather and they can't get any grub (they live in the mountains in Idaho), they keep the deer antlers in this urn at the back door which I reckon is okay. And it's a really tiny urn actually so it shows how much they hunt don't it.

And there's vegetarians that don't eat meat and vegans who don't eat animals products of any kind (eggs, cheese and whatknot) so you can live on a veg only diet but I think vegans might come across problems with absolutely no protein in the diet (as well as some other things) and quorn tastes really nice by the way, very nice in sausages...

Anyway, that was my senseless ramble, you can ignore me now...

Usually, I'd give you a caution for not being remotely on-topic (I have to be fair, if I caution DH for this kinda thing).

But because I completely agree with you, I'm not going to.

And we can't pressure people to change font, just like we can't pressure a vegetarian to eat a beef burger, it's more hilarious to give them meat without them knowing.

Pchh... I didn't mind the font at all. I out-rank Dino and Rich and you may continue using Comic Sans... because I enjoy spiting the both of them.

Although I personally wouldn't go out at 3 'o clock in the morning and sit in a tree all day, hoping that a deer somehow wanders into my direction, I must admit that deer meat (venison) is delicious.

As is dove. And rabbit. And squirrel. Mmm... squirrel chili. That's some good eatin'. Fo' reals.

Squirrel chili? I've been long gone from this topic, but I had to reply to that. I have never heard of a squirrel chili, is it you know, like it sounds i.e a normal chili but with squirrel meat instead of mince, beans etc.?
I've never had deer, dove or rabbit, can you compare it to anything else?

What in the world is quorn?

Sligster, how are squirrels pests? It's not like acorns are a valuable crop for humans or something...

I can understand this "thrill of the hunt" thing. It's like a very exciting and physical game, and the animal is the other player, and you must use all your wit and skill and tact to win and yadda yadda. Sounds great. But you don't need to kill the animal to enjoy that. It's like killing your opponent after you win a game of chess. And every animal that you kill is an animal that you will never again hunt, and an animal that will never produce offspring for you to hunt. So crazy. Of course, here I'm just referring to hunting for sport.

People should hunt other people. It would be the new extreme sport. And the prey would be like fitness gurus, survival nuts, and other skilled hunters... maybe televised American football fans (for beginners). Of course, there would be fake weapons and such, just to please those "it's wrong to kill people" crazies.

It's a kind of fungi, so far as I can tell. They grow it, then "spin" it into lumps or "steaks" or mince. I quite like some of the products - I like the mince as it isn't too overpowering in pasta-sauce, for instance, but the "ham" is really grim. Vegans (and a lot of vegetarians) can't eat it, though, as it's grown on egg-white. It's promoted as more of a healthy "meat substitute", these days, I think, for people watching their cholesterol or just after an alternative.

Just about everything has protein in - nuts, pulses, and beans are all brilliant sources of it. It's vitamin B12 that's the only thing vegetarians and vegans usually have to take supplements of, I think, as B12 is mostly from animal sources (although I think I heard it was in yeast, so stuff like Marmite (blech) too?)

I vaguely see the point to insect-hunting (in the whole "OMG SHINIES!" sort of way - some insects have incredible colours, they'd probably make brilliant decorations if you were that way inclined); what I particularly don't get is egg-collecting. *headscratch* You're going to go out... find eggs... take them home... throw the contents away and just keep the shells?

Meh. That's what paintball is supposed to be like, as opposed to the tiny little enclosure style paintball some people practice, which just involves idiots running around shooting each other and laughing. Anyway. You don't know the full extent of my idea. It would be so much cooler than anything before it, paintball included. Have you ever read The Most Dangerous Game? It would be like that. Yeahhhh... awesome.

I've never played paintball.

It's normal chili with squirrel replacing the meat; it still has beans and whatnot.

Squirrel is a really mild white meat.
Deer is like a sweeter, richer beef flavor. It's hard to explain.
Rabbit is extremely similar to squirrel, and tastes great when barbecued.
Dove is basically a really flavorful, moist chicken flavor. Simply awesome when wrapped in bacon and smoked.

Um... my dad hunts.

Paint ball is so stupid. It basically is the PC alternative to shooting everyone with real guns. Most people who play just play it to make themselves look all macho. I have a better barbaric game, throw someone in a pit, drop in three panthers and a bee hive, dump boiling oil, and spray flesh eating bacteria over their faces. How's THAT for a substitute?

I'm sorry but L. O. L. I know you're not the first to state something like that, so don't feel bad. Where the heck did you people get such an idea? The majority of our proteins in our diet do come from meat, I think, but plants have proteins too! Pay more attention in bio. Proteins are one of the most important structurey things in both kinds of organisms.

Perhaps you were thinking of cholesterol? Plants don't have that.

Ostriche is zee best meat, onions are the best vegitable, and the mango is zee best fruit! Sorry, this thread is just making me really . Well, I think it's good to have a balance of each. For instance, you can't live off just meat because you won't get any fiber which will cause horrible bowl proiblems, and if you eat on just plants you won't get enough protein.

You know, paintball is far more superior to FPS gaming, OGM IMO. If you get shot, it hurts. Then bruises. O.o

Ground Squirrels. They dig burrows everywhere. It's a mountainous region, so there are alot of hikers, and one occasionally trips in a hole and breaks their ankle. That's bad.

Or sometimes a cow will get their leg caught. Leg breaks, you have to put it to sleep. Less cows = less milk/steak = less profit.

People should hunt other people. It would be the new extreme sport. And the prey would be like fitness gurus, survival nuts, and other skilled hunters... maybe televised American football fans (for beginners). Of course, there would be fake weapons and such, just to please those "it's wrong to kill people" crazies.
I fully endorse this..... cept for the fake weapons part

Isn't the point of hiking to see nature and whatnot? How can you consider something living in its own habitat to be a pest when it's the humans being the intruders? If you're going to hike in a mountainou region, then natural hazards known to the area should be expected.

Completely agree. Idiots should look where they're going.

Our native Red Squirrels are near extinct because of those grey American bastards coming over though.
