They used blind ones,
that could not see.

Remember, they're also dumb to the point they walk off cliffs and die just because someone said "follow me".

How did they get blind in the first place? Their eyes are stitched shut, so one might assume they were forcefully blinded.

On a more serious note, the mudokons would probably notice that the bones they're mining for the glukkons look exactly like those of their dead/injured coworkers.

What confuses me on these situations is that from what we've heard about general society on Oddworld, these things are quite public.

Abe and Co are technically in the third world, and heavily sheltered from news and media. Hiding information from them would be easy. But the general public in the likes of Nolybab and beyond, (of which we are led to believe some are mudokon), would be perfectly aware of the sale of Mudokon Pops and brew bottles labelled with 'X-tra Bone!'

In the games, presented from Abe's point of view, these revelations are sinister and shocking - he never knew. But surely to the actual consumers of these products, who should be well aware, they what? Just don't care? It feels like there's an important element to the world here that's never really been touched on.

Maybe it's an extreme version of people willingly wearing clothing made by slave labour Unless it's happening to them, they don't care.

Before Abe shut down RuptureFarms, they used bones from the slaughtered livestock. Necrum Mines was only established in response to the bone shortage.

So until Abe went all terrorist on the Magog Cartel, they didnít need to sew shut anymudís eyes. Consequences!

But nothing in Abe's Exoddus would lead you to believe that since there's no evidence to support it. If we're taking strictly about Abe's Exoddus and NOT SoulStorm then we have to go off what the game tells us, which is honestly not a lot. The whole thing is riddled with mistakes, I mean in the intro Abe tries to make out that they're all blind, but it's barely even 15% of the workforce, and not just at the mines, they're spread throughout all of the facilities when the whole point was supposed to be that they couldn't see what they were digging up.

I get that it's just a minor plot detail used to explain a gameplay mechanic, but hopefully for SS they've reconsidered it and are planning to have it make actual sense this time.

I think it's safe to infer that the blind mudokons were blinded by their employer in order to keep them from freaking up about digging up their ancestors.

As you say, I wouldn't expect those born into slavery to understand the cultural significance to free mudokons / their ancestors. However, surely they deal with death on a daily basis (workplace accidents / incidents); still seems sensible to control them in this manner.

Moreover, it may be more effective to consider it as a metaphor for how disconnected the mudokons (arguably, all persons of Oddworld .. gluks, sligs, etc) have become from life before the Magog Cartel and consumption based economy.

It's probably easier to keep mudokons "under control" if they were blind. Less of a chance of escape. There's probably a much higher chance of Mudokon miners attempting to escape if they were aware of what it was that they were mining.

As for why they're everywhere else, the Gluks probably panicked after realizing Abe was back and tried to ship slaves haphazardly to other areas in an attempt to keep Abe from releasing them. They probably didn't expect him to stray from Necrum.

Technically and canonically this should be true, and this is the version of the story I subscribe to. But lets not forget that Exoddus is implied to take place only a single day after Rupture Farm's destruction, and Necrum Mines is shown with fully functional infrastructure, including a train line that runs all the way to FeeCo Depot. That's not the kind of stuff you build in a day or even a month (even with slave labor).

Exactly; it doesn't make sense for Abe's actions leading to Necrum being shut down since they go to Necrum almost as soon as Abe finishes rescuing 99 muds.
