Default Ode to an Odd Quest

I wrote this poem outlining the plot of Abe's Exoddus. I'm nearly 18 now...

ODE TO AN ODD QUEST
or
ABE GETS BONED AND BREWED
By Bullet Magnet age 16 from the UK

They fluttered in, as birds of a feather,
Closer they flew, flocked together.
A flash of light!
Sparks in the night!
It’s Abe! The savior of his race,
Dropped to the rock in his grace.
We cheered! Ninety-nine freed of his fellows,
Our happiness could not be mellowed.
As freed slaves, we won’t be lunch,
For our former masters, an ugly bunch.
But a strange noise echoed over our sound:
From Abe it seemed to be bound.
He’d passed wind, a not uncommon growl
(It’s that slave-gruel, ‘s not good with our bowel).
We all laughed- hey! ‘Twas a joyful day!
"Oops," spake Abe in his dismay.
A slap on the back the Bigface endows
(This happens again later as Alf well knows).
So Abe lost balance, tumbled off the stage.
His head smashed against the stone of past age,
The poor Mud lay still, we all gasped!
As it turned out, Abe was in a trance.

The Weirdos came to visit him then,
The spirits of three long dead mudokon.
These restless souls with missing limbs,
Came to Abe with problems grim:
The Glukkons were mining the City of Dead!
Now that Abe had fallen on his head,
These Weirdos told him of their silent plight
That the Glukkons wage in the night.
"They take our bones with Mudokons made blind,
To Necrum- that is where you’ll find,
Our spirits, they are in disarray.
So please! Hurry quickly if you may,
The sligs have trapped us in cages small.
Get your butt over here! Save us all!"

So Abe left the Sanctum with five friends:
Eager to help: a hand to lend.
Alf was one, a wily guy,
Can’t take a drink: we’ll find out why…
And his friend Buddy, a delicate Mud,
Had had a run in with a notorious Pud
Two others, their names forgotten,
(Probably downed one brew too often)
And I: The poet of the group to be,
What can I say, words are important to me.
So, we set out across the sands,
To a place where consumer demands,
Have defiled a crypt with unwelcome guests,
And caused our ancestors’ spirits’ unrest.
The desert was harsh, hot and dry,
Fatigue almost made Buddy cry.
Our faith in Abe began to dwindle,
But our confidence was soon rekindled.
Loudly the ground began to rumble,
Drowning out our stomach’s grumble.

A huge Gluk-train thundered through the air
Beneath a sky-rail (we hadn’t noticed it there).
To the ground we did dive!
It seemed a miracle that we survived.
A vital clue it left behind
Did not take long for us to find:
A bone that fell from its carriage,
As it returned to the Necrum garage
(Why take bones back to Necrum, though,
Is one thing I will never know).
But thank the Odd! We were finally there!
Just breathe in that… kinda stale Necrum air.

So we did sneak into the mines,
Avoiding nitrous oxide from turbines,
We scaled the wall that kept chained Muds in,
And hopped onto the ledge within.
This is where dear Abe did leave us,
An accident that was most grievous.
He tumbled down a chasm deep
His landing: enough to make one weep.
Abe survived! Fate lent a hand,
With jaggèd outcroppings so grand.
Each and every one he hit:
Slowed his fall a tiny bit.

Battered, bruised and totally beat,
The intrepid Abe rose to his feet.
Now he must endure his quest alone,
‘Till our rendezvous among the bones.
Lead mudokon slaves to freedom sweet;
And find us hiding in the heat.
For not only spirits have here stayed.
The living Mudokons need his aid.
Along the way endure the wrath of slig,
Hungry for Abe’s bounty big.
But when finally found us Abe did do,
We found our way to Tunnel Two.
There we found awaiting a very special treasure,
That was also a curse far too large to measure.
A beverage Moolah-hungry manufactured:
A product of an evil mind that’s fractured.
The Glukkons called it SoulStorm Brew™
Of the consequence we had not a clue.
A drink of treacherous addiction,
With Abe it caused some massive friction.
‘Coz drink we did, to his alarm:
He tried to warn us it’d do harm,
We argued with him, to my great shame,
The great desert was whence we came.
Our thirst called out for us to drink!
We did not take the time to think.
When the brew was gone, we wanted more,
But none remained in Vendo’s store.
This is where Abe discovered the twist
When he saw the ingredients list.
If only we’d seen it! If only we’d known!
Brew is made from our bones!
Too sick we were to finish the quest
So it was up to Abe to save the rest.

He needed us to find the others,
So he had to heal his brothers.
First he must destroy the mines
And save the poor Mudokons blind.
Dear Abe! He was chased off a ledge
By a flying slig who’d made a pledge:
To catch the Mud and claim the prize!
But our hero had a surprise…
By chanting his mantra with such high zest-
The unfortunate slig became possessed.
So to clear the way through the dust
And free the slaves as he must.
Through the tunnels our Abe went,
The security was to the extent
That bullets flew through the air,
Aimed at Abe wherever he dared
To show his face among the rubble,
Rescuing workers and causing trouble.
As he dodged slogs’ hungry jaws,
Scattered Oddworld Ratz that gnaw,
The mudokon savior made an ingenious plan
That he formulated as he ran:
"If I turn the boilers to overdrive,
I’ll blow them up and with them, the mines"

So past the sentries our Abe did run,
They tried to shoot him with their guns
(Though sligs do have powerful stuff,
Their skill with them is very rough)
So through the tunnels Abe did flee
And damaged boiler number three.
After, he rigged up boiler two,
The pressure in the system grew.
Then Abe found and blew number one
The final deed had been done.
Pipes exploded as rocks dropped to the floor,
Our hero sprinted for the emergency door
(We were fine: under a sturdy girder,
Didn’t feel a thing: that hangover’s murder).
The cavern shook; seasick sligs threw up,
As Abe reached the exit, Necrum Mines blew up.

So Abe was blasted through the ancient wall,
And landed on a guardian tall
(Between his legs you understand,
There was a tusk- the pain was grand).
Abe then plunged to the floor
Of Necrum’s forest, feeling forlorn.
But this forest of Mudokon dead,
Had its own blight of ominous threat:
For mutant pets of young Glukkons rich,
Product of Vykkers experimental glitch,
Were flushed down to the sewers below
And ended up in forests to grow.
These two-headed monsters are known as Fleeches:
(Glukkons blame them for wiping out meeches!),
Double-ended worms and chameleon tongues bold:
Their screeching cry makes your blood run cold.
One word of advice, follow, for Odd’s sake,
Don’t tread on the slurgs, or they’ll awake!
Multiple attacks scarred Abe sore,
In their attempt to pull ‘im into their toothy maw.

The Weirdos agreed to give Abe a hand,
If first he’d grant them one simple demand.
"You have done well in halting the mines,
Stopping the Glukkons and drills that grind.
But the consequences reach far and wide,
To the first of these we will guide.
The vaults of Necrum are where you must go,
One, the Mundanchee, the other, Mudomo.
The creatures that nest there you’ve met before:
Paramites many, and Scrabs galore.
Among the fleeches and sligs, you’ll also find,
Important targets you’ll have to mind.
The sligs have locked fellow spirits away:
Release each you must to continue your way.
When you are done, back here you shall walk.
Once we’re all free, then we will talk."

So Abe left to endure the test,
Journeyed into the dark where the predators nest.
The Mundanchee tribe lies in the vault of that name,
Warrior Muds: that was their game.
The Scrabs that they worshipped, here they reside,
Their home in the vault is where they hide.
Deadly hunters and hungry for blood.
Perfectly suited are slow-footed Muds!
Fleeing from Scrabs while saving lost souls,
Abe will soon be in sight of his goal.
The tribe Mudomo built temples great,
A peace loving people- it’s conflict they hate.
The Mudomo Mudokons revered their Paramites:
Fanged little pack hunters that stalk in the night.
For Abe they were particularly tricky,
Hiding in webs that are quite sticky.
Soon all the ghosts were finally resting,
As for the Paramites: quietly nesting.

Our hero Abe to the Weirdos returned,
To tell then all of what he had learned.
"I’ve something to tell you that I knew:
Glukkons use your bones to make SoulStorm Brew!"
The three spirits had known this, that is why,
They had visited Abe, for help from the guy.
"You shut down Rupture Farms: your old workplace,
In order to save your entire race.
Now we have something for you to do-
We know you can destroy the Brewery too!
The Glukkons get Muds drunk on the beverage,
And then they use it as their leverage,
To persuade them to work in the SoulStorm Brewery,
But in actual fact, force ‘em to slavery.
The Mudokons today have forgotten their past,
Now the pride of our race is disappearing fast.
We will hold up our end of the deal,
And give you a special power to heal.
Now any Mudokon sick from brew,
Will easily be able to follow you.
Rescue your friends through the magic portal,
Then take the battle to the Magog Cartel."
So Abe returned to the Necrum Mines
To cure our illness just in time.
So we turned around the wheels
Then spun on our bright green heels,
As Abe chanted a portal to our abode,
And left with a train cart on which he rode.
For days he pushed it beneath the rail,
Following the putrid SoulStorm trail.
He finally reached the FeeCo station,
In the center of the industrial nation.

But the Glukkons enjoying the highest rank
Who keep Mudokons in the dark and dank,
Made a plan to protect the brewery great,
So Moolah they could continue to rake,
The gates must be opened with their permission,
If Abe is to complete his mission.
So to the Barracks Abe must go,
To find the first Gluk to star in the show:
General Dripik, commander of sligs,
Smothered in self-awarded medals big.
Many sligs Abe must battle, possess and explode,
‘Til Dripik is found with his secret code.
Take over his mind and open the entrance,
Then blow him up with so much vengeance.
Escape from the barracks past Greeters and worse,
To chase Director Phleg of the dark Bonewerkz.
This is where bones from Necrum tombs,
Are made into ingredients in the gloom.
Not just are there bones and Muds to be saved,
But sligs to be dealt with, and slogs to be braved.
Creeping through cogs and grinding bone mills,
Darting round slog huts and furnace that grill.
He found the boilers and set them to bust,
(It didn’t take much because of the rust).
Abe shut down the old factory,
And made his way to the directory,
Which told him just where to find the Gluk,
That ran the Bonewerkz filled with muck.
He hummed his mystical chanting drone,
Until the Glukkon was at last his own.
After using his influence to open the door,
Director Phleg’s brains splattered on the floor.

Back at FeeCo Depot awaited the last,
One sorry Gluk who’s time had passed.
Vice President Aslik living in the grime,
"Ensuring" the trains will run on time.
So using his gift of exploding farts,
Abe made his way to the FeeCo’s heart.
After crushing the sligs at the baggage reclaim
He tracked down Aslik to finish the game.
So stealing his body, unlocked the last gate,
So Abe could go on and complete his fate.

With electric walls down, so not to cause pain,
Abe then made it on to the train
And entered the Brewery to end production
Of the vile soul-slaying concoction,
He made his way through zulags many,
While rescuing Scrubs were there any.
Also fighting sligs and slogs,
Even Fleeches in the bogs.
He also possessed Glukkon CEOs
To rescue his mudokon bros,
Opening voice locks with Gukkon’s sound,
Then sent through the portal homeward bound.

But even this far down the line,
There was one more hidden horror to find.
The other ingredient in the brew of fears
Is none other than mudokon tears!
First they planned to sell our meat,
As a frosty, tasty treat.
Then they dig up ancestral remains,
Now mudokons feel electric pain,
As they cry our eyeballs dry.
We’ve had enough, the time is nigh,
For Abe to finish what he started,
In honor of the dear departed,
So end production, shut down the place.
And go on to save the mudokon race!

Abe infiltrated the conference room,
And peered though the low-lit gloom.
He listened in on the Executives’ row,
"Hey! That Bastard’s here now!"
"Whose fault is this, can we agree?"
"You’re not pinning this on me!"
"If he gets to the boiler, all is lost!"
The boiler! That was the source,
If Abe could strike there the Brewery’s finished,
The battle won, the Cartel diminished.
So quietly Abe crept to the final boiler to blow,
The alarm sounded, poison gas would soon flow.
As Abe fled through the Brew vats he heard,
The familiar sound of fluttering birds.
Soon he found them and a portal he rode,
Just as the Brewery was to explode.

They fluttered in, as birds of a feather,
Closer they flew, flocked together.
A flash of light!
Sparks in the night!
It’s Abe! The savior of his race,
Dropped to the rock in his grace.
Three hundred more of his fellows freed,
From the clutches of corporate greed,
We partied with Alf in his Rehab (with tea!)
Where drunken Muds become truly free.
But the celebrations: short, more work to be done,
Still enslaved was our mudokon Mom!
And more mudokons still need to be saved
Far beyond terrors that must be braved.
Our brothers toil, chained in tandem
And we are going to find ‘em.

To those who are interested, I'm also writing a story about a mudokon bounty hunter in Clakker Country, though it won't be done for a while. I went a bit mad and turned it into a sort of novel. Watch this space...

Okay. How about this:

There was once a Glukkon named Luddle
Whose Fleech grew too big to cuddle
It was flushed down the loo
With Glukkon doo-doo
And landed in a big Necrum puddle
